Acknowledgement of Country

Let's Yarn Training acknowledge the Gooreng Gooreng, Gurang, Bailai and Taribelang Bunda people who are the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work. We acknowledge their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay our respects to their cultures, and to Elders past, present, and emerging.

About Us

Aunty Karen Butler is based in Gladstone, Central Queensland and has been a licenced instructor with Mental Health First Aid Australia for the past 8 years. We don't just yarn about Mental Health - we connect. Our training respects cultural ways of learning, using yarning circles, story-telling, and community connection

Our mission is to support and empower communities by raising awareness and understanding of mental health, with a strong focus on supporting First Nations people. Through culturally safe yarns and inclusive training, we aim to bridge the gap in mental health literacy and foster stronger, more connected communities where every voice is heard and every voice matters.

Mental Health Yarns: Why They Matter

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental health problem each year? This means any of us — or the people around us, including family, friends, and colleagues — could be affected.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training empowers individuals to recognise the early signs of mental health challenges or crises and to respond confidently using the Mental Health Action Plan as a guide.

When we notice changes in how someone looks, thinks, feels, or behaves, it’s our cue to check-in and offer support.

Mental Health First Aid Training gives you practical skills to:

  • Intervene early when signs of mental distress appear

  • Offer appropriate support and reassurance

  • Respond effectively in a crisis situation

  • Challenge stigma and promote open conversations about mental health

  • Prioritise self-care as a Mental Health First Aider

Committed to Bridging the Gap

Every session is a step towards reconciliation, equity and stronger mental health outcomes for First Nations communities.

'I am passionate about promoting the importance of mental health yarns for our mob, who can be feeling overwhelmed and alone. These yarns save lives' - Aunty Karen
